Media Release – U20 Football and Hurling Team Managers

The Galway GAA Management Committee are pleased to recommend Kevin Johnson as the new U20 Football Manager and Gavin Keary as the new U20 Hurling Manager, with both proposed to serve three-year terms.

Kevin Johnson has a proven track record of success, guiding Corofin to back-to-back Galway County Senior Football titles in 2023 and 2024.
He achieved the same feat with Ballintubber in Mayo in 2018 and 2019, and previously secured a County Football title with Tourlestrane in Sligo.

Gavin Keary is currently Head Coach of the Loughrea senior hurling team, leading them to victory in the 2024 Galway Senior Hurling Championship.
He was the two time All-Ireland-winning coach of the Galway minor hurlers in 2015 and 2017, and has served as Head Coach to both the Clare and Dublin senior hurling teams in recent years.
Both Kevin and Gavin have also contributed greatly to underage development  in Galway through their roles as Academy coaches over the years.
Their respective management teams will be confirmed in due course.
Galway GAA Chairperson, Paul Bellew, said:
“We are delighted to have people of the calibre of Kevin and Gavin leading our U20 teams. They bring a wealth of experience from both inside and outside the county and have achieved notable success at club level here in Galway. This success, combined with their involvement in the Academy system in Galway over the years makes them excellent candidates to take on these roles. Both are committed to the bigger picture and to the long-term interests of Galway GAA, particularly in developing players for senior inter-county level and in raising standards. We wish them every success and look forward to working closely with them over the coming years.”
The appointment process for the U17 Football Manager is ongoing, with interviews scheduled over the coming fortnight.
All recommended appointments will be brought forward for ratification at the County Committee meeting in September.
