At Tuam Stadium Galway revenged last year's defeat by beating Roscommon in the FBD Final, the winners got a tonic start when ‘Man of the Match’ Damien Comer raised the first green flag inside the opening minute and followed that with number two a few minutes later.
Comers opening goal was followed by an exchange of points from Johnny Heaney and Senan Kilbride and when a Eamon Brannigan delivery was finished by Comer Galway lead by 2-1 to 0-1 despite playing against the breeze. Points from Adrian Varley 0-2 Enda Tierney 0-1 and Comer 0-1 saw the winners lead at the break by 2-5 to 0-6.
Roscommon did all the scoring in the third quarter with a brace of points from Cian Connolly and Murtagh to cut Galway lead to a single point 2-5 0-10, Varley finally got the winners opening second half point with 12 minutes to go to make it a two point game, points from Murtagh and Connolly levelled the match as the clocked ticked towards injury time, Johnny Heaney and sub Shane Walsh replied with two late points for the winners and deep in injury time it was one point game as Niall Daly shot the last score of the game for the Rossies but the ‘Maroon and White’ captured the FBD Cup for the first time since 2009. Final score Galway 2-8 Roscommon 0-13.
